Patagonia National Park

The place, the heart of Patagonia

The base: Patagonia National Park, Santa Cruz.

Our base is in the northwest of Santa Cruz, Argentine Patagonia. Just a few kilometers from the town of Los Antiguos, and only an hour from Perito Moreno airport, lies a land of steppe, canyons, and wetlands where silence is part of the landscape.

Our horseback journeys start from the historic former La Ascensión Ranch, a pioneer in these lands and now part of the La Ascensión Wild Nature Reserve within Patagonia National Park. Here, a unique ecosystem is protected — home to the macá tobiano, an endemic bird and a symbol of this wild and resilient region.

It’s a remote corner, but accessible. And once you arrive, it’s hard to leave. The park offers over 50 km of hiking trails, camping areas, restrooms, and visitor information. Entrance is free, but registration is required to enter.

Los Antiguos: starting point for your journeys.

On the shores of the vast Buenos Aires Lake and at the foot of the mountains, Los Antiguos is the town we chose to live in and dream from. A fertile valley amid the steppe, known for its mild microclimate and cherries, but also for the warmth of its people and their deep connection to the land.

From our small farm—a family-run production unit—we grow fine fruits, raise animals, and organize every one of our journeys. Although many outings take place in more remote areas, the work always starts here, among fruit trees, irrigation channels, and open views of the mountains.

In Los Antiguos, we also prepare some of the regional products that accompany the trips: homemade jams, preserves, packed meals, baked goods, and artisanal alfajores. All made with care and a taste of home.

Must-dos: kayaking on Lake Buenos Aires, exploring the Laguna de los Juncos urban reserve, visiting cherry farms, enjoying the viewpoints, hiking along the Los Antiguos and Jeinimeni rivers, discovering the Marble Chapels (Chile), the Cueva de las Manos, and driving the Scenic Route 41.
