“El Buen Samaritano” Farm

Los Antiguos, Santa Cruz.

Our story: among pioneers, horses, and cherries.

My father, Tomás Myburg, was born into a family deeply rooted in these lands. His maternal grandparents arrived in the northwest of Santa Cruz in the early 20th century from Río Negro, herding sheep and traveling in ox-drawn carts. In 1909, they settled in what is now Chile Chico, when borders were still undefined and exchange with Los Antiguos was a daily occurrence. It was in these remote, nearly unpopulated lands that my grandmother was born.

On his father’s side, the origins come from even farther away: his grandparents were Boer settlers — Afrikaners who fled war and British oppression in South Africa — and arrived in Chubut in 1902. They settled in the steppe near Comodoro Rivadavia and dedicated themselves to sheep farming.

My grandparents met in Comodoro. During a visit to the family already established in Los Antiguos, they decided this valley would be their place in the world. That’s how, in the 1960s, they purchased this five-hectare farmstead, which they named El Buen Samaritano.

Horses have always been a part of our family life. As my dad often says, “Patagonia was made on horseback.” The stories our grandparents told us always featured a horse — traveling impossible distances, herding, guarding, exploring. That’s why horseback riding isn’t just a trend or another business for us. It’s a legacy, and a way to share what we love.

The Campground

In 2013, we began offering horseback rides from the farm, and in 2018 we decided to open the campground as well. We built it with our own hands and the spirit of hospitality we inherited.

Today, we welcome travelers from all over the world to a simple and warm space, surrounded by nature and memories. Our campground features:

  • Green grass and generous groves to rest from the sun.

  • Willows planted by my dad, now providing shade for the tents.

  • Always clean bathrooms and hot water showers.

  • A cozy shelter/pavilion, ideal for cooking, sharing a meal, or simply sheltering from wind or rain.

We love welcoming curious visitors — telling them the story of the town, the Hudson volcano, the beginnings of the cherry harvest, the tales of Lake Buenos Aires… and helping them discover this corner of Patagonia that we love so much.
